Security-Related Certificates

CTPAT, or Customs Trade partnership against Terrorism is a voluntary government initiative to build cooperative relationships that will strengthen and improve overall international supply chain and U.S. border security.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection recognized that the way to provide the highest level of cargo security is through close cooperation with the international supply chain such as carriers, importers, customs brokers and manufacturers.

Enhanced benefits of using a CTPAT certified carrier:

  • Reduced number of CBP examinations
  • Front of the line inspections
  • Possible exemption from Stratified Exams
  • Shorter wait times at the border
  • Assignment of a Supply Chain Security Specialist to the company
  • Access to the Free and Secure Trade (FAST) Lanes at the land borders
  • Access to the CTPAT web-based Portal system and a library of training materials
  • Possibility of enjoying additional benefits by being recognized as a trusted trade Partner by foreign Customs administrations that have signed Mutual Recognition with the United States
  • Eligibility for other U.S. Government pilot programs, such as the Food and Drug Administration’s Secure Supply Chain program
  • Business resumption priority following a natural disaster or terrorist attack
  • Importer eligibility to participate in the Importer Self-Assessment Program (ISA)
  • Priority consideration at CBP’s industry-focused Centers of Excellence and Expertise

Fast Express

The Free and Secure Trade (FAST)

Fast and Secure Trade

The FAST program is a bilateral initiative between the United States and Canada that is designed to ensure security and safety while enhancing the economic prosperity of both countries. FAST is a harmonized clearance process for known low risk shipments.

Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT)

CTPAT Approved Carrier

For FAST land processing, trucks need to be from a Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) approved carrier, carrying goods from a U.S. CTPAT-approved importer, with drivers holding valid FAST Commercial Driver Cards.

Enhanced Benefits of using a FAST approved Carrier

1

Faster Lanes

Dedicated lanes (where available) for greater speed and efficiency in the clearance of FAST transborder shipments

2

Reduced Inspections

Reduced number of examinations for continued compliance with Customs FAST requirements

3

Better Supply Chain

Enhanced supply chain security and safety while protecting the economic prosperity of both countries

Partners In Protection

Partners in Protection

Partners in Protection (PIP) is designed to enlist the cooperation of private industry in efforts to enhance border security, combat organized crime and terrorism, increase awareness of customs compliance issues, and help detect and prevent contraband smuggling.

Robust Protection for Trade

Significantly enhanced and improved levels of security.

Streamlined Customs Clearance

Quicker movement of low-risk travelers and goods through customs

Expert Customs Guidance

Improved understanding of Canada customs requirements.

Active Partnership Communication

Better communications between the CBSA and your organization.

Customs Self Assessment Program

As part of the Customs Action Plan, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) introduced the Customs Self Assessment (CSA) program, a progressive trade option for clients who invest in compliance.

The CSA program also gives approved importers, approved carriers, and registered drivers the benefits of a streamlined clearance option for CSA eligible goods. The streamlined clearance process ends the need for transactional transmissions of data related to eligible goods. This allows for the clearance of goods based on the identification of the approved importer, approved carrier, and registered driver.

Enhanced benefits of using a CSA approved carrier:

  • Ends the transactional transmissions of data elements
  • Ends the need for artificial customs systems
  • Increases the certainty of expedited customs processing
  • Makes it easier for clients to meet their obligations
  • Streamlines legitimate trade
  • Reduces private sector costs
